"Country's 180 districts in 12 states are away from eight per cent development due to the menace of naxalism and it is the main reason for the backwardness of these regions ," Agrawal told reporters last evening at the Central Press Club.

Because of naxalism tribals of these areas are away from roads, education, health facilities and development, the minister said.

Agrawal said that the tribal state has been able to convince the Centre about the gravity of the problem and added that because of it now the Union Government has started tackling it at the national level.

"It can be effectively tackled by taking joint efforts and forming joint commands by involving the affected states," he said.

Referring to 'Salva Judum', he said that it was the biggest non-violent movement of the country after Independence and has garnered wide support.
