‘Naxals strong in non-Congress states’

Union panchayat and rural development minister Jairam Ramesh said naxalism was strong wherever Congress has become weak. He pointed out that naxal-hit Jharkhand has not seen Congress rule in the past 13 years, Chhattisgarh has not seen Congress rule for a decade and in Orissa Congress has been out of power for 12 years.

Union panchayat and rural development minister Jairam Ramesh said naxalism was strong wherever Congress has become weak. He pointed out that naxal-hit Jharkhand has not seen Congress rule in the past 13 years, Chhattisgarh has not seen Congress rule for a decade and in Orissa Congress has been out of power for 12 years.

He said wherever there is a Congress government, the naxals have not been able to spread their influence. However, he said that in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh Naxalism was not becoming strong as Congress and its organisation is stronger in the state.

He was speaking at a public meeting organized near Indore to mark the launch of ‘parivartan yatra’ on Wednesday.
