NC seeks withdrawal of laws brought in J&K after 1953
The National Conference today demanded withdrawal of all the laws enforced in Jammu and Kashmir after 1953, saying such a measure would avoid thrusting of "puppet governments" on the people.

The party also sought restoration of complete autonomy saying it will resolve all issues of Jammu and Kashmir.
"Restoration of complete autonomy is the only solution to the problems being faced by the people. Therefore, it is imperative to withdraw all the laws enforced in the state after 1953 so that doors for imposing puppet governments on the people are closed," party general secretary Sheikh Nazir Ahmad said during a membership drive.
NC founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was dismissed from prime ministership of the state on August 9, 1953 and jailed on the charges of 'Kashmir conspiracy case', which was later withdrawn, he said.
Ahmad also called for resumption of talks between India and Pakistan stalled after the Mumbai terror attack.
He said "for ensuring peace in the sub-continent it is imperative to take the dialogue process to its logical conclusion..."
Another NC leader Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, MLA, said restoration of internal autonomy would prove a step towards in evolving a lasting solution to the Kashmir issue.
"The Centre should give a serious thought on the report submitted by justice (Retd) Saghir Ahmad and restore the constitutional status of the state as it would be a step towards a lasting solution to the Kashmir issue".
