The BJP-led Nationalist Democratic Alliance (NDA) is likely to reach the half-way mark of 272 in the 14th Lok Sabha, early exit polls predicted on Wednesday following the end of the penultimate phase of election.
According to Star News' overall projections, the ruling alliance would get 270-282 seats. The Congress and its allies are likely to end up with 167-179 seats, with the 87-99 seats going to others.
The Aaj Tak channel projected 266 seats for the NDA, six short of a simple majority, 175 for the Congress and 102 for others.
The channel said that of the 361 seats for which polling has already been held so far, the NDA would get 193 and the Congress and its allies 116.
The NDA appears to have done well in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
In the overall projections for the 83 seats involved in Wednesday's voting, Star News gave 53-57 for the NDA and 12-16 each for the Congress and its allies and others.
Polling has been completed in 361 constituencies, while the remaining 182 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha, would go to polls in the fourth and the final phase on May 10.
Counting will be done on May 13 and and results are expected on the same day.
