Nearly 18,000 people evacuated in Andhra floods

In Krishna district, about 14,503 people were moved to safer places and are being provided with all basic amenities.

Nearly 18,000 people were evacuated from Krishna, Guntur and Nalgonda districts of Andhra Pradesh on Monday following the flood situation in Krishna river and outflow of 5.43 lakh cusecs of water from Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir.

Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy reviewing the flood situation with the top officials and asked them to keep vigil on the flood situation and monitor relief and rehabilitation of the persons evacuated.

According to Shashank Goel, Commissioner for Disaster Management, 2,687 people were evacuated from low-lying areas to relief camps in Guntur district while bodies of two persons, who drowned on Sunday were retrieved on Monday in Bellankonda Mandal.

In Krishna district, about 14,503 people were moved to safer places and are being provided with all basic amenities, the Commissioner said.

As per the information available, flow in Krishna river will continue to be heavy for next week and the collectors of these three districts have been asked to keep a constant vigil on the flood situation.
