The DG said that under the given conditions and environment, the weapons were good, but a certain amount of upgradation was necessary, which included providing rucksacks that could float in water and night vision devices to the forces.

Lt Gen Singh said the US was highly advanced as far as technology was concerned." Therefore, we look forward to better exchange of skills and technology between the two countries", he said" The main objective of holding such exercises was to learn from each other, he said. "Terrorists across the globe are joining hands, so we are also making a joint effort to counter the menace," said the Director General.

He said such exercises were the need of the hour and added that the terrorists too were progressing in their own way. The terrorist-groups across the world were seeking help from each other and were also achieving technological expertise. "They have obtained fully developed satellite sets, and are using the Internet" he said. The DG further said that militants operating in Jammu and Kashmir were misusing religion and were exploiting teenagers to fulfill their evil designs. Describing how teenagers were brainwashed and used as suicide bombers, the Lt Gen said there had been a continuous recruitment of adolescents by different terror groups.

Regarding similar military exercises with other countries, he said that India was open to a joint military exercise with any country. Earlier, the Director General inspected the US arms and directed the senior officers of the Kumaon Regimental Centre to closely understand the weaponry so that some of the techniques could be introduced in the Indian Armed Forces.
