A bomb disposal squad on Saturday defused all the bombs.
Netrapal did, however, manage to blow himself up on the wedding night of the woman whom he was obsessed with.
The PAC team said Netrapal was not a human bomb and cited technical reasons for their assessment. Rawat and his team claimed no bomb was attached to his body. A police official further claimed the bomb went off in Netrapal’s hand. The squad said all the bombs that were defused were high-powered time devices.
Rawat told HT the time device was attached to a battery and broken bulbs. Rawat said the detonator was linked to a time device through a pencil cell. These bombs could have caused extensive damage within a radius of 10 to 15 metres and killed many people.
The squad is sending aluminium powder to the forensic laboratory in Agra. Circle officer Vijai Pratap Singh said the bomb that went off had low-grade explosives. He claimed it went off in Netrapal’s hand. Netrapal’s post-mortem report revealed three injuries.
The bride’s father Suresh Kumar said he had filed a complaint with the district magistrate and the superintendent of police eight days ago through ‘Lokvani’ about the threats issued by Netrapal, but no action was taken by the police. Despite the complaint, policemen did not go inside Netrapal’s house, where bombs were being made, and returned after just asking him a few questions on May 11.
It was only after Netrapal blew himself up on Friday that police recovered many sensitive devices from the house. The police also recovered five letters written by Renu alias Madhu to Netrapal.
