Network hiccups haunt BSNL subscribers

CELL ONE and Excel users were dumb-struck on the third consecutive day on Monday when their mobile sets went out of gear as usual at the beginning of new year. They were left in the lurch as they failed to get any response despite repeated efforts. Notably, the mobile as well as the landline subscribers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd, faced same problems on the first day of the New Year.

They were left in the lurch as they failed to get any response despite repeated efforts. Notably, the mobile as well as the landline subscribers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd, faced same problems on the first day of the New Year.

Since Saturday the post-paid and pre-paid users, had the messages "No Network" or "Network Busy" on their mobile screen. Hundreds of users complained that network of many localities were not working and cursed the BSNL for the inefficient service being rendered to them. Many of them even vowed to do away with their service and switch on to services of some other mobile companies. Despite several attempts the new year messages failed to be delivered to the persons concerned. More than 90 per cent SMS on new year could not be forwarded being the network busy.

To recall, January month seems to be most disturbing for the BSNL mobile users in the district. After new year's day, the customers will have to suffer the same problems during the forthcoming Magh Mela when thousands of devotees arrive in the city for the month-long Kalpvas besides heavy rush during the main bathing festivals. Sources said that serious attempts were not being made to meet the demands with the existing infrastructure because it could not bear the additional load on the lines.

On being contacted a BSNL Officer told HT Allahabad Live that the problems surfaced due to sudden heavy load on lines. New Base Switch Terminus were being installed to strengthen the signal system. The BSNL office would make efforts with the Chandigarh centre to take special measures in order to ensure proper facility to consumers on the main bathing festivals during Magh Mela.
