New science, tech policy in 3 months: CM

The task force will be headed by eminent scientist Dr T I Basu of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. The process would be undertaken by the MP Council of Science and Technology (MPCST), Chouhan said.
The chief minister also made a number of announcements regarding optimal utilisation of science and technology for the development of the state and generation of employment opportunities at the press conference, held after the first meeting of the reconstituted general body of MPCST, where these decision were taken.
He said that the science and technology policy would be finalised after consultation with experts as also with representatives of various sections of society.
SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY COUNCIL: Similarly to advise the state government on ways of optimally utilising the resources with the help of science and technology, Scientific Advisory Council would be set up in the state, the CM said.
BIOTECHNOLOGY CENTRE: He also said that a Centre for Excellence in Biotechnology would be set up in Bhopal and for this purpose a five-member expert committee headed by Dr S K Kar of Biotechnology Department of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi has been set up.
The expert committee would also include Dr Navin Khanna of Institute of Genetics Engineering, New Delhi, Dr Subhash Chandra of IIT, Delhi, Dr Narendra Mehrotra of CDRI/CSIR, Lucknow. Dr NP Shukla of MPCST would be the coordinator.
The general body also approved the decision of the executive committee of the MPCST to institute institutional and individual awards for scientific research and technological innovations in rural areas. The general body also decided to initiate efforts to conserve, preserve and document indigenous knowledge in state.
It was also decided during the meeting that on January 12 – the Youth Day – an entrepreneurship convention with objective of employment generation would be organised. Also as part of the silver jubilee celebrations of the MPCST that would commence next month, the council would initiate work towards development of quality index for the rural products by fixing indicators.
It would also work for enforcement of the quality index and certification of the products, the director general of MPCST Dr Mahesh Sharma, who was also present at press conference alongwith the vice-chairman of the general body Dr Madhav Hari Kanhere said.
The meeting was attended by a number of ministers, principal secretaries and vice-chancellors.
