The activists termed the Modi Government’s attitude in Gujarat as apathetic for not permitting the release of ‘Fanaa’ in the state.
“Every one has a right to freedom of speech and Aamir Khan did nothing wrong by demanding proper rehabilitation of those affected due to the Narmada dam in Gujarat,” they said.
Leading the dharna, president of the organisation Dr Rajiv Srivastava said some fundamentalist forces were opposing Khan’s stand but he presented an example of humanity by favouring rehabilitation of the displaced people. “How can the opinion of common Gujaratis come to light when, ‘Fanaa’, was not released in Gujarat,” he said. He said people’s opinion would have been highlighted had people watched Fanaa in theatres.
Srivastava said the image of Gujarat had already been sullied due to riots then and now.
Administrative officer of the organisation, Puja Singh said the social initiative of Aamir Khan was admirable and those who were opposing his stand had become insensitive.
Other activists including Nazma Parveen and Naznin Ansari said Khan was a hero in real life by favouring the rehabilitation of the displaced people.
