The National Investigation Agency (NIA), in its first major probe against the CPI (Maoist), has registered a case against its central technical committee head — Sadanala Ramakrishna alias Techie Anna — for trying to procure rocket launchers and mortars.

According to sources, the agency was asked to identify the supply chain of Maoists for arms and ammunition, so it could be dismantled. The arrest of Techie Anna and his associates had led to the recovery of sketches, rocket launcher components and mortars from their hideouts in Kolkata and Raipur. A sum of R1 crore was also found, NIA sources said.

Techie Anna, a mechanical engineer and CPI (Maoist) central committee member, was responsible for manufacturing and buying weapons and ammunition, and supplying them to guerrilla units across India.

According to sources, the NIA is expected to get three more Maoist cases in the next few weeks.
