Nimbus Communications on Friday petitioned the Delhi High Court challenging the ordinance making it mandatory for private channels to share live feed of any sports event of national importance with public broadcaster Prasar Bharati.

The counsel for Nimbus Communications Ltd, which is the owner of Neo Sports, appearing before a division bench headed by Chief Justice M K Sarma, said the private sports channel had challenged the government ordinance as "arbitrary" and "unconstitutional".

The matter will come up for hearing Monday.

The government promulgated the ordinance with retrospective effect from Nov 11, 2005. It compels private broadcasters to share live feed with Prasar Bharati and provides for a penalty up to Rs.10 million by defaulting media channels.
