A bus packed with passengers hit a roadside tree in western Bangladesh on Sunday. Nine people were killed while 41 others injured, a news report said.

The accident occurred early on Sunday at Kaliganja area in Jhenaidah district, 128 kms west of the capital, Dhaka, a local television station ATN Bangla reported.
Nine passengers died instantly. The injured were being treated at two hospitals, it said.
At least a dozen victims were in critical condition, the report said, quoting unnamed hospital officials.
Police couldn't be reached immediately for comment. Road accidents blamed on faulty vehicles, bad driving and poor enforcement of traffic laws kill about 4,000 people each year in this South Asian nation, according to the state-run Bangladesh Road Transport Authority.
