Nine dead, 41 injured in Bangladesh road mishap

According to the Road Transport Authority, bad driving and poor enforcement of traffic laws kill about 4,000 people each year.

A bus packed with passengers hit a roadside tree in western Bangladesh on Sunday. Nine people were killed while 41 others injured, a news report said.

The accident occurred early on Sunday at Kaliganja area in Jhenaidah district, 128 kms west of the capital, Dhaka, a local television station ATN Bangla reported.

Nine passengers died instantly. The injured were being treated at two hospitals, it said.

At least a dozen victims were in critical condition, the report said, quoting unnamed hospital officials.
