The Centre on Tuesday asked the Uttar Pradesh Government to issue a notification in "proper format" for a CBI probe into Nithari killings.
Official sources said that the letter addressesd to Union Home Secretary VK Duggal from UP Principal Secretary, Home, Satish Kumar Aggarwal, had been sent back to the UP government saying that it was not in a proper format.
Instead of notifying handing over the Nithari killing probe to CBI, the UP government had only sent a letter to Union Home Secretary urging him to order a CBI inquiry.
Under the Delhi Police Special Establishment Act which governs CBI, the state government which wants to hand over a case to CBI should issue a notification under the Act following which the Centre will order a probe.
