Nitish flays Govt over illegal occupants' list

Nitish Kumar said that the mention of his name in the list has brought his name in bad light.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notice to the Centre on the allegation by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar that the mention of his name in the list of unauthorised occupants of government accommodation has brought his name in bad light.

In an intervening application before a bench comprising Justice BN Agrawal and Justice AK Mathur, Kumar said despite his repeated request that he be allotted Type-VII accommodation as per his entitlement after he demitted office of a Union Minister, his plea was not considered.

Kumar was allotted the Type-VIII bungalow at 22 Akbar Road as a Minister in Union Cabinet. He was entitled to a Type-VII accommodation on demitting office.

The Bihar Chief Minister said that after demitting the office of the Union Minister, he had written a letter to the Chairman, House Committee, Lok Sabha for allotment of accommodation as per his entitlement but no action was taken.

He said since the proceedings before the court on the issue has been widely covered, he was shown in unauthorised possession of his accommodation thereby putting him in a bad light.

The Centre's affidavit failed to point out that he was not staying in the accommodation by choice, he submitted.
