About 10,000 contract workers of Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC), who commenced an indefinite strike on Monday demanding Rs 10 lakh as compensation to the kin of a contract worker who died in an accident while on duty, have called off their strike.
The strike was called off last night after the NLC management agreed to pay Rs 5.75 lakh to the family of the deceased Kolanchiappan (45) and job to one of his dependents at a meeting convened by Regional Deputy Labour Commissioner at Chennai.
Kolanchiappan, a contract worker of second lignite mine, died on September four after the tractor in which he was travelling toppled down due to technical failure.
