"There is no programme for prolonged shutdowns or for violent protests. We are not in favour of damaging the tourist season this year or of disrupting educational activities," he said in a statement here. The separatist leader, however, said shutdowns are the only option for peaceful agitation.

He said the killing of youth in Machil sector in Kupwara and other places in the Valley forced the people to hit the streets last year. The Valley today observed a shutdown in response to a call by Geelani to protest the arrest of youths. Yesterday, state DGP Kuldeep Khoda said his force is working to ensure a peaceful summer this year.
