It was Katrina Kaif’s chance to do a Zoobie Doobie. The makers of the Tamil version of 3 Idiots approached Kat to play Kareena’s role in the remake. The actress said no, citing "date problems". Gemini Films Circuit, the production house that has bought the rights of the film from Vidhu Vinod Chopra for an amount between Rs 10-12 crore, had a meeting with Katrina and was keen to sign her. "But she had to say no because of date problems," says a source close to Katrina.

Katrina has a packed schedule this year with Dostana 2 and a Zoya Akhtar film after she is done with Rajneeti. The producers are remaking the film on a very big budget and have roped in south superstar Vijay to essay Aamir Khan’s role. After Katrina declined, they approached Kareena, who also backed out saying she’d no dates. The production house is also working on the Telugu remake of the film.
