Noida land scam: Former UP chief secy gets 3-year jail
Former Uttar Pradesh chief secretary Neera Yadav, who served as Noida authority chairperson, and another serving IAS officer Rajiv Kumar were on Tuesday sentenced to three-year imprisonment by a special CBI court in the Noida plot allotment case, Peeyush Khandelwal reports.

Apart from imprisonment, CBI special judge S Lal awarded three-year imprisonment in another case related to allotment of plots in the name of her two daughters at Noida by misrepresenting facts. The court also slapped a fine of R1 lakh each against Yadav and Kumar in the case.
Rajiv Kumar, Noida’s then deputy CEO, is currently posted at Lucknow as principal secretary (appointments). Soon after the verdict, the two convicts were granted bail by the court against a bond of R1 lakh each. They were also granted one month to appeal against the judgment, said CBI prosecutor ID Vaid.
The CBI carried out a probe against irregular land allotments following a Supreme Court order in 1998. Noida Entrepreneurs Association had moved the apex court against the authority.
Abusing her official position, Yadav showed her daughters as business women in the records. During investigation, it was found that her daughter, Suruchi studied in Kirori Mal College, Delhi University, while her other daughter Sanskriti studied in Britain.
Earlier, in December 2010, the former UP chief secretary was awarded four years imprisonment on charges of criminal conspiracy and corruption in a similar case related to allotment of plots under corporate group housing scheme.
The scheme was launched for industrial and institutional units in Noida.
Yadav was sent to Dasna prison in Ghaziabad but was released on bail by Allahabad high court.
