The police on Saturday arrested a 35-year-old software engineer for allegedly torturing and forcibly keeping a 14-year-old maid in her Sector 62 flat.
The girl, a resident of Dhanbad in Jharkhand, has accused Minakshi Bharadwaj and her husband Sushil, also a software engineer, of beating her up with leather belts and sticks for small mistakes.
The couple had got the minor girl from a Delhi-based placement agency a year ago.
In her police complaint, the girl said Bharadwaj would not let her step out of the flat and beat her up along with her husband whenever she tried to escape.
“The couple used to thrash her for the smallest of mistakes. They even did not let her go to her home in Jharkhand,” said Yogesh Singh, SP (city), Noida Police.
On Thursday, the girl managed to sneak out of the house when Bharadwaj was alone at home. Her husband, the police said, was out on a tour.
“Some security guards near Bharadwaj’s housing society took her to the Sector 58 police station, where she lodged a complaint against the couple,” said the police.
Bharadwaj, however, denied the charges.“The girl is lying. We did not at all torture her. I was looking for her right after she left home.” The police have handed the girl over to a welfare home in Noida.
