Official reports said that shops, markets, business establishments located along the normally-busy Uripok-Kangchup road, two km west of Imphal, remained closed in response to the bandh.
The road wore a deserted look in the early hours.
The bandh has been called by Uripok branch of the Manipur Forward Youth Front demanding immediate resignation of Uripok assembly constituency MLA, L Nandakumar Singh for the failure of the Government to withdraw the Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur, reports said.
MFYF Uripok branch spokesman said Nandakumar Singh, Manipur's Minister for Health, Family Welfare and Labour, had failed to convince the Government, headed by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, to lift the Act from Manipur.
