Two police personnel were also injured in the cross-firing, but the way police had identified the body on Thursday raised doubts over the encounter.

Moreover, Neeraj’s parents alleged that their son was running ice-cream business in New Delhi and he, after getting Rs 10,000 from her mother, was leaving for New Delhi by Shramshakti Express on Tuesday night.

It may be recalled that a police team led by SO Badshahinaka Sujit Kumar Dubey along with an SOG team led by Devendra Dwivedi killed Neeraj Karia, who carried a reward of Rs 2500 on his head. Two policemen including the SO, Badshahinaka also sustained bullet injuries in the exchange of fire.

Ironically, police took the services of Nazirabad police to identify the body of Neeraj instead of his family members, who are living at Kaushalpuri area. SP crime Sripati Mishra also endorsed the fact.

Ram Janaki, Neeraj’s mother, blamed the police for the cold-blooded killing of her son. She claimed that not a single case was pending against her son’s name and she had even written proof of it .

“Police picked up my son when he was returning to New Delhi on Tuesday night and killed him the next day and termed it an encounter,” lamented Ram Janaki, who was sitting outside the mortuary of LLR hospital.

Jagdish Prasad, father of Neeraj, also said his son had shunned all criminal activities and the police killed him when he refused to work for them.

Jagdish, who is a retired railway employee, challenged the police to prove any recent crime committed by Neeraj.

Neeraj’s kin described the killing as a ‘fake encounter’ and blamed the police for cold-blooded murder.

Reacting to the allegations, the SP crime said, “If someone opens fire on police he would be given a befitting reply.”
