Earlier, inaugurating the bus service Agrawal claimed that transport services in the State had, off late, substantially improved contributing to making Uttar Pradesh an Uttam Pradesh. He said the Government was committed to making the UPSRTC the country’s number one transport corporation by 2010.
The minister announced that from April UPSRTC would operate Shatabdi Bus service from Lucknow to some main cities and begin city bus service in Kanpur from April. He hoped the double-decker would fulfill the travel need of the people besides serving them a tourist vehicle.
The double-decker bus with 32 seats on its first deck and 22 on the open upper deck w will ply between Wave Cinema and Sahara City via Lohia Park, and Ambedkar Park. The bus will cover the 10 km distance in 50 minutes with the passengers on board enjoying seeing beautiful parks, monuments and the River Gomti. Starting at 10 in the morning bus service w will be available every hour till 6 pm. The bus fare has been fixed at Rs 10 per passenger. However, the fare would be half applicable in case of children.
The UPSRTC will also make the bus available to schools, and colleges as well as to corporate sector against certain packages.
UPSRTC MD, Umesh Sinha said that depending on the success of the service, the number of Double Decker buses might be increased and service begun on some other routes too.
Among other officials present on the occasion were, principal secretary (Transport), Rajendra Bhaunwl, transport commissioner, CB Paliwal and others.
