Confirming the information, party general secretary Prahlad Patel said “Umaji decided to become the main polling agent to check attempts of booth rigging at polling stations by the ruling party on Monday.”

In Bada Malehra, three companies of para-military force and two companies of Special Armed Force have been deployed to deal with any eventuality.

There were rumours that followers of an Independent candidate roughed up certain MLAs when they made an attempt to lure voters with money.

Arvind Bhadoria, in charge of BJP affairs at Bada Malehra, dismissed the reports of manhandling of MLAs as baseless and alleged that fear of defeat in the by-election frustrated the BJ leaders. Hence such rumours, he added.

Collector Ajatshatru Shrivastava said there was no tension in the constituency. The administration had taken adequate measures to ensure peaceful by-elections.
