The creation of Mumbai's electrical engineer-turned-restaurateur Aditya 'AD' Singh, Olive is the restaurant to be seen at. And why not? Located in a restored turn-of-the-century, 15,000-square-foot haveli, with a sunny courtyard dominated by a brooding banyan tree, with the Qutab looming in the background, it's definitely better-looking than the original Olive in Mumbai.
The menu, according to the reigning fashion, is Mediterranean. We recommend the Mushroom Cappuccino with Spring Onion Ravioli and Morel Oil, Potato Gnocchi in Walnut Cream Sauce with Gorgonzola, jumbo prawns dressed in a fiery Portuguese marinade, scallops served on potato roesti with an orange and maple syrup sauce, and the Chocolate Fondant for dessert.
One big attraction is the Pizza Di Metro Grande, a metre long with your choice of toppings. It's an ideal destination for a great evening. Make reservations before setting out.
Wine List: Olive has an extensive, value-for-money wine list – a mix of big names and drinkable wines with no snob value. Among the reds, we recommend the Vosne Romanee Domaine du Clos Frantin 1999 and Gevrey Chambertin Domaine du Clos Frantin 1999 from Burgundy, France; Barbaresco 1999 from Angelo Gaja, Piedmont, Italy; Castello Del Poggio Barbera d'Asti from Piedmont, Italy; Sangre de Toro 2002 from Torres, Spain; D'Arenberg High Trellis Cabernet Sauvignon 2001 from Australia; and Rupert & Rothschild Classique 2001 from South Africa. The prominent whites on the list: Henri Bourgeois Pouilly Fumé 2002 (Sancerre), Domaine Long-Depaquit Chablis 2002 (Burgundy) and Domaine Schlumberger's Les Princes Abbes Gewurtztraminer 2001 from Alsace; Mount Pleasant Chardonnay 1999 from Australia; Vina Tarapaca Piritas Chardonnay 2002 from Chile.
