THE FASTEST train in the country, New Delhi-Bhopal Shatabdi Express arrived in the Capital for the first time on Thursday after its rake was upgraded to withstand the high speed of 150 kph between New Delhi and Agra.

The train that is now scheduled to arrive at 13:55 hours on all days in the week except Friday came a few minutes earlier. DK Modi, who boarded the train from New Delhi, said the journey was now very comfortable and there were no jerks.

Some of the train’s window glasses were damaged as children had hurled stones at the train on its test run near Delhi on Wednesday. What is special with this train is that a satellite phone has been provided in the executive chair compartment.

Another passenger Udaybhan Singh Tomar, who arrived by train, said the coach was luxurious and it was a very smooth run all along. The compartments have automatic doors, broad luggage carrier and several other facilities. The seats have been especially designed for greater comfort.

The broader glass windows, centrally arranged luminous arrangement, halogen reading lamp and inclination of backrest and footrest that are adjusted by levers are amongst the many technical upgrades in the train.

The drivers, CL Thakur and BL Yadav, brought the train to Bhopal. Except on Friday when the train will run with the old rake on old timings for maintenance purposes, on rest of the days the train will run with the new timings.
