Gadgets and home appliances make life easy, but getting them fixed if they need repair can be a harrowing task, because some after-sales services do not keep to their end of the bargain. So four Mumbaikars have decided to step in and fix the situation. To ensure that customers remain a satisfied lot, they have started a website, theekkardo.com, which acts as a one-stop destination to get electronics repaired. Launched in November last year, it offers repair services for over 20 product categories and has received 20-25 calls per day since its inception.
“This was an unorganised market and we wanted to do something to improve the existing situation,” says Hardik Shah, who is one of the founding members along with Sonakshi Pratap, Bhavishya Pratap and Shantanu Kamath. The website currently only caters to people living in certain areas from Borivali to Bandra, but plans to expand and cover other areas in the city soon.
The 20 product categories include ACs, video game consoles, music systems, laptops and refrigerators among others. To ensure that the service provided is up to the mark, the team has tied up with technicians and service providers based in neighbourhoods along the Western railway line. The repair or replacement cost is on par with what you usually get after the expiry of the product’s warranty/guarantee. “We charge people a visitation fee of R200-300 for all products. However, if the product is repaired by us, that fee is waived,” says Shah.
How it works
You call the call centre or log on to the website. Here you give the details of the product you want repaired and say what is wrong with it.
The team gets in touch with a technician, who visits your house within two hours. The visitation fee is waived if the technician doesn’t arrive within that time span.
The technician inspects the product. If it is a minor job, he completes it on the spot. If not, it is taken away for a proper check up.
The customer is then given a quotation of how much they might have to shell out to repair the product. If the product is beyond repair, the cost of replacement is provided.
If the customer agrees, the product is repaired and the customer gets a three-month guarantee. If not, the product is returned and the only the visitation fee is charged.
