The judgement has set an example that women cannot be oppressed and treated like animals. Anything less than death sentence would be a soft punishment for a heinous crime such as this.

Death sentence is the right decision. A mistake was made in the lower courts, which has been rectified in the high court. Hope a similar verdict is given in the Nitish Katara and Jessica Lal cases

— Simranjit Singh, law student

I do not believe in death sentence but the law has to be followed. The law says death can only be awarded in the rarest of rare cases. The judgement has sent a message that the justice delivery system is still working.

— Shishir Rudrappa, lawyer

I am not for death penalty and personally, I think it should be abolished. We do not have the right to take away anybody's life. However, I am glad that justice at last has been done.
