Three hours of power rostering at late night continuing in the city since last week, forcing the people to spend sleepless nights. The chief minister had directed the Power Corporation officials to suspend power supply to rolling mills and industrial units in order to maintain uninterrupted power supply at night but the power control system has been ignoring the order so far.

Criticising the irresponsible attitude of the Power Corporation officials, city unit president of the Samajwadi Party, Zia-ul-Islam, said it was the conspiracy of power control system to defame the government. He said the matter would be raised before the chief minister and other senior officials.

He said the order to exempt the city from power rostering was issued but the city was still is receiving only 40 MW against the demand of 100 MW.

Meanwhile, talking to Hindustan Times, GM, Power Corporation, Suresh Ram, admitted that the city was exempted from power rostering but emergency rostering on the directive of control system continued. He said the crisis had erupted due to load on the power grid and low generation of power.

It is to be noted that unprecedented power rostering has crippled the routine life in the city which is receiving 10 to 12 hour power only. On Monday the power supply was suspended at 6 am and was restored at 12.30 pm.

In the second spell, power supply was snapped at 4 pm and was restored at 7 pm. In the third spell, power supply was suspended at 10.30 pm and was restored at 1.30 am.

The same routine continued on Tuesday, affecting the drinking water supply system also.

School children were worst affected by prolonged hour power rostering at night as they failed to get sound sleep. Humidity had made matters worse.

Meanwhile, members of Purvanchal Vikas Manch staged a dharna at Buxipur power substation and threatened to ransack the substation if night rostering was not cancelled.
