Orientation week at MANIT

On July 17, the programme started with Saraswati Vandana, followed by a welcome address, addresses by Director Dr K S Pandey, Dean (Administration) Dr Ashutosh Sharma, concerned heads of departments, proctor and senior warden among others.

The new batch of BE and B Arch students were also taken on site visits to Bhojpur, Sanchi and Bhopal City in groups from July 18 to 20. Buses were arranged by the institute.

The new students’ council was formed on July 21 and oath-taking ceremony held on the same day. Besides, there were special lectures and personality grooming sessions during the orientation week.

MBA tuning programme at BSSS
BHOPAL SCHOOL of Social Sciences (BSSS) has started a tuning programme for Master of Business Administration (MBA) with Assumption University, Bangkok.

It is a two-year degree course. Students complete the first semester at BSSS and then takes up the remaining three semesters at Assumption University, which is the first international university in Bangkok.

There are 20 seats for the course and the fee is Rs four lakhs. Graduates from any discipline securing more than 55 per cent marks can apply. Students are chosen on the basis on written test, interview, group discussion and counselling—all conducted at BSSS.

In the new session there are students from Kashmir, Gujarat, Bihar and Kerala besides Madhya Pradesh, BSSS principal Fr P P Joseph said.

New courses at IIFM
INDIAN INSTITUTE of Forest Management (IIFM) will introduce two new branches of specialisation under its postgraduate (PG) diploma in forest management. From the next session, students can opt for specialisation in environment management or development management under the forest management programme.

IIFM will also introduce separate PG diploma courses in environment management and development management by 2009, faculty (communication methods and extension) Prof K N Krishna Kumar said.

As in PG diploma in forest management, for the new courses too students will be admitted on the basis of their performance in CAT (Common Admission Test) followed by group discussion. There will be 30 seats for each course.

The number of seats will be increased from 45 to 60 in PG diploma course from the next session. The institute will also upgrade the existing one-year M Phil course and start a four-year programme leading to doctoral degree in nature resource management from 2007, Prof Krishna Kumar added.

IIFM will also introduce a certificate course in NGO management and community forestry from 2007. The certificate courses will be of one month to 12 months duration and will be meant mostly for professionals engaged in these areas.

IIFM will further start centres for livelihood management, ecological services and forest certification from next session. Collaborative research and consultancy projects will be taken up under these centres, Prof Kumar said.

New canteen at Geetanjali
A NEW canteen was opened at Geetanjali College recently. The canteen is run on contract basis as per norms of a Government college.

A canteen committee has been formed which is managed by professor (zoology) Dr Jyotsna Shrivastava and a team of professors. Cleanliness and hygienic factors are supervised by the committee.

The canteen has already become the favourite spot of students especially as it offers snacks at subsidised rates—samosa (Rs 2), kachouri (Rs 2), idli (Rs 5) among other items.
