Thirty-eight years  of people, paper and promotion Each required an individual effort and devotion. Most of those you started have gone a long way Its your time to turn in the badge and call it a day.

MAJOR GENERAL MP Singh who recently relinquished command of Selection Centre Central, Bhopal is a Capricornian born on January 5, 1948 in Faridkot. He was commissioned into the Corps of Signals of the Indian Army on December 16, 1967.

He has one of the incomparable career profiles in the Indian Army. He has quite a few First’s to his credit, to cite a few Communication Firsts – During Sri Lanka Operations, he established first ever Radio Link between Chennai and Jaffna used to transmit LTTE supremo’s Prabhakaran’s speech live.

As Commanding Officer he provided communications in the first ever exercise held to ARENize 2 Corps. He was the first Chief Signal Officer to both ARENize and ASCONize 21 Corps. Staff Firsts-He is the First and the only Chief Air Formation Signal Officer so far to be nominated for the prestigious National Defence College from Air HQ.

First Signal Officer to be posted as Additional Director General Movement in Army HQ and has the distinction of having mobilised the complete Indian Army during Op Parakram for the first time in National History and is also the first Signal Officer to be posted as Commandant of Selection Centre, Bhopal.

He is one of the privileged few to have done highly acclaimed professional courses like Defence Services Staff College, Long Defence Management Course, National Defence College besides holding a Bachelors Degree in Telecommunication Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Defence Studies. General MP Singh has seen war from close quarters in the Kargil Sector during the 1971 Indo-Pak war, Sri Lanka & Counter Insurgency Operations. He has been commended twice for his dedication to the Service.

Gen MP Singh feels the environment today has become more competitive than ever before and the Armed Forces have to compete with the Manufacturing and Service Sectors to get the best human resource available. He strongly recommends a career in the Armed Forces as it has many advantages over other sectors, which need to be highlighted.

For example, we are the only non-contributory pensionable service and if our pay, perquisites and concessional facilities are appraised through an exclusive media campaign we would be attracting the cream of the society.

The General Officer who hails from Patiala (Punjab) has traveled extensively within the country and abroad. He is happily married for over 32 years, has a daughter and son who are both settled in the USA. MP’s in MP had a fruitful and satisfying tenure. We wish them all the very best in life.
