With many options in weatherproof furniture now in the market, your garden can look trendy irrespective of weather conditions.
A few plastic chairs and table are all one tends to think of when it comes to doing up a garden, the most obvious reason being that we don’t want expensive furniture to rot when exposed to the elements throughout the year.
But nowadays, thanks to the availability of trendy weatherproof garden furniture in the market, one can accessorise the
garden’s look.
Tough exterior
Customers looking for durability must be ready to shell out Rs 16,000 to Rs 29,000 for Cane-Line and Dedon weatherproof garden furniture. “We have weatherproof outdoor furniture that doesn’t expand, contract or crack,” says Vikas Dhingra, VP Marketing, Windows, the company that represents Dedon and Cane-Line.
“There has been a remarkable shift in trend,” he adds. “These garden products look more like pieces of art than furniture. Earlier, people were looking for wrought iron and teak products, but now various other materials are in demand. The pent house concept has also increased the demand for garden furniture.”
Aesthetics spilled
Gardens are now being seen as extensions of the interiors. “The trend is more of a spillover of the house. I do bandage furniture that is made of washable polyester and is weatherproof. But hardwood product requires polishing once or twice in a season,” says Anjali Goel of La Sorogeeka.
Lot in store
Umbrellas, bird houses, sculptures and fountains have also invaded garden spaces to add character. “Stainless steel furniture cannot be left [in the open]. It can be kept in covered spaces like porches,” says product designer Mukul Goyal. “Stone furniture is also picking up. Bright colours and innovations in designs can be spotted in garden furniture. The market in terms of prices looks brighter in 2010,” he says.
