Over 10,500 women contesting panchayat polls in Muzaffarnagar

In a keen contest, over 10,500 women candidates are in fray for the onging panchyat elections in the district, officials said on Monday.

The first two phases of the panchayat polls were held here on October 11 and 14, respectively. Polling for the third phase will be on October 22, while for the fourth phase it will be held on October 25.

Total 10,693 women candidates in the district are contesting the elections for different posts.

As many as 2,619 women candidates locked horns for the position of gram pradhan in the first phase, while 2,221 where in the fray for the position of gram member and 335 for the post of Block Development Committee (BDC) member, they said.
