Over 130 corruption cases in 2 years: J&K Vigilance

Jammu and Kashmir State Vigilance Organisation (JKSVO) has registered 131 cases of corruption within two years, out of which 97 cases of prosecution were presented in the courts.

As many as 70 FIRs were registered in 2010 and rest in 2009, an SVO spokesperson said here today. 57 cases were booked in 2010 as against 40 in 2009.

Many multi-crore scams were exposed, an SVO spokesperson said. As many as 46 Public servants were caught demanding and accepting bribe while four of them were convicted last year.

In order to fight corruption, the government has strengthened legal measures like introduction of Benami Transaction (Prohibition) Act 2010, amendment to PC Act to facilitate the attachment of property during investigation and forfeiture during trial, he said. A high-powered committee headed by Chief Secretary was also constituted to work on the recommendations of the State Vigilance Organisation.
