Over 2,000 girls benefit from Balika Samraddhi Yojana

OVER 2,000 girls from poor families have benefited under Balika Samraddhi Yojana. Unmarried girls who continue their education till 18 years of age receive financial assistance under the scheme.

OVER 2,000 girls from poor families have benefited under Balika Samraddhi Yojana. Unmarried girls who continue their education till 18 years of age receive financial assistance under the scheme.

A sum of Rs 500 has been deposited in the bank or post office account of girls who were born after August 15, 1997, in families living below poverty line, District Women and Child Development Project Officer Tripti Tripathi informed in a press release issued here today.

Over 1,000 girls received the scheme benefit in Sanver tehsil alone. Other beneficiaries include 365 girls from Depalpur project area, 487 in Mhow, 437 in Indore rural and 463 in Indore urban areas.

Besides, the girls receive annual scholarship of Rs 6,200 under the scheme. This sum is deposited in their fixed deposit account and is given to the beneficiary when she completes 18 years of age. The government withdraws this sum if the girls get married before 18 years of age.

Girls studying in class I to III get scholarship of Rs 300, Rs 500 is given to class IV students, Rs 800 to those in class VIII while Rs 1,000 are awarded to those studying in standard IX and X.
