PROPER ATTENTION to any game could draw spectators to arena. This was proved in the closing ceremony of the Late Prasoon Sarang Memorial State-Level Boxing Championship that concluded in the City today.

Three-day championship saw contest between 250 pugilists that visited from across the State. “I have never seen such an enthusiastic and full-strength stand in any state-level championship”, gushed former vice-president of Indian Amateur Boxing Association, Albert Noronha. He was an observer of the championship.

Enthusiasm for the championship could be gauged from the fact that spectators watched the bouts by even standing because the seats were fully occupied well before the schedule.

“Though I am not a big fan of boxing, the way the participants contested and the event was organised compelled me to watch it”, said Rakesh, a spectator at the closing ceremony.

Even some other sports associations lauded the efforts made in organising the championship. Former director sports and MP Kayaking and Canoeing Association general secretary B S Kushwaha said that the success of this championship would motivate others to organise the events in such manner.

“The success of this championship proved that spectators could be attracted to other games also besides cricket. The need is to organise them with systematic manner”, he added.
