Paiki processionists clash with shopkeepers; 3 hurt

Tension gripped pockets of Kanpur City when a procession of paikis (messengers of Hazrat Sugra, daughter of Hazrat Imam Hussain) indulged in an altercation with a shopkeeper and his aides in Beconganj locality that resulted in injuries to three persons.

One of them received bullet injuries while two others got injured when an oil-filled cauldron fell during the scuffle. According to reports, a procession of paikis was passing from Beconganj locality, when they indulged in a heated verbal exchange with a sweet shop owner Haseen. In the meantime, several other paikis entered the shop and started exchanging heated words with the shopkeeper and his aides, Javed and Ismail. The resultant argument and jostling led to an oil-filled cauldron falling on the ground that severely burnt the two workers present in the shop.

Also according to reports, during the altercation someone whipped out a country-made pistol and opened fire resulting in injury to Afroz.

Following the incident, the police swung into action and detained Shareef (Khalifa of messengers). As a precautionary measure police patrolling had been intensified in the city.
