Pakistan's former High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Bashir Wali Mohammad, who survived a claymore mine attack in Colombo recently, has alleged that Indian intelligence agency, RAW, was behind the strike.

Wali, who returned from Sri Lanka a week ago, alleged that the attack was carried out by RAW to begin a proxy war in a third country.

Pakistan's plan to ship new arms to Sri Lanka to battle Tamil rebels did not trigger the assassination attempt he said.

Wali had narrowly escaped a powerful claymore mine attack on August 14 in the Sri Lankan capital in which four of his guards were killed.

Wali, a former Chief of Pakistan's Intelligence Bureau was quoted by daily The Post as saying that the LTTE not only refused to claim responsibility but it also denied reports published in media about its involvement.

He claimed the Indian government was "upset" with the decision of Pakistani government to appoint him as high commissioner to Sri Lanka and that RAW was playing "dirty games against" him.

He further claimed that Pak-Sri Lanka relations touched a new height during his two-year stint, which further "disturbed" the Indian government.
