The ballistic missile Hatf VI (Shaheen II), with a range of 2,500 kilometres (1,555 miles), can carry conventional and non-conventional weapons, a Pakistan military statement said.

It added that the "test was conducted to validate additional technical parameters beyond those that were verified in the last test fire in March 2005."

The statement did not disclose the location of the test.
