“Pakistani troops made unprovoked firing with small arms in the Bhimbar Gali sector. The army also retaliated and fired in an equal manner,” said defence spokesperson Lt Colonel Manish Mehta.

Defence sources said Pakistan started firing from Thursday night, which continued till Friday morning. Pakistan has been firing mortar shells for the last three days in this sector. It had earlier fired heavy 120-mm mortar shells.

On August 13, Pakistan even fired along the Pallanwalla area in the Jammu district.

There has been spurt in firing along the border since last month, with Pakistan firing almost on daily basis. On August 4, a woman was killed in Pak firing in the Pargwal area along the international border.
