HOLDING PRIVATE sector’s failure to set up powerhouses in the State responsible for the deepening crisis, the UP Karmchari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti (UPKSSS) today welcomed State Government’s decision to set up new power houses under the public sector.
In a statement, samiti leaders, Shailendra Dubey, AK Singh, Girish Pandey, Chandra Prakash Awasthi and Sarvesh Dwivedi said that the Government had, during last 12 years, signed agreements with various private parties to set up powerhouses of total capacity of 4000 MW. But no powerhouse was set up, they pointed out.
Welcoming government decision to establish two units of 250 MW each at Parichha and at Harduaganj under public sector, the leaders also demanded to set up 1000 MW Anpara C powerhouse under the public sector.
They said effective steps should be taken to control wastage of electricity. They suggested that the provisions of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 be enforced strictly.
Meanwhile, Statewide power crisis continued to paralyse common life across the State on Friday. The UPPCL imposed power cuts to the tune of over 2,000 MW. There were reports of people created a ruckus in Kanpur demanding an end to nighttime rostering.
