The doctor-parents of 15-year-old Dhileepan Raj who allegedly performed a caesarean section at their family-run maternity hospital near Manapparai recently, were taken into custody on Monday.

Dr Murugesan and his wife Dr Gandhimathy were taken into custody on Monday morning and detained at the Valanadu police station, police sources said.

The probe ordered into the Caesarean section, allegedly performed by the boy, a class 10th student, was over and the report was submitted to the collector Ashish Vachchani, official sources said.

Talking to reporters on Sunday, the collector had said appropriate action would be taken after studying the report and consultations with both medical and legal experts and informal interactions with the investigation team.

However, details of the report would not be disclosed to the media or the public and only the decision taken will be made known, he had said.

The incident, which created a flutter, came to light at last month's meeting of Manapparai unit of the Indian Medical Association, where Murugesan, a surgeon and Gandhimathy, a gynaecologist, is said to have screened the video of their son performing the surgery.

Dr Murugesan is now claiming that he performed the surgery while his son just watched it.

Coming down heavily on Dr Murugesan, the Tamil Nadu branch of the Indian Medical Association, which met in Tiruchirappalli on Sunday, adopted a resolution seeking disciplinary action against him.
