The settlement was reached between the Mandal leaders and the AMC at the Circuit House. The AMC considered the demands of the traders and also issued the parking contract to the Naveen Market Association. Now, the shopkeepers will manage the parking in the market area without charging any amount from the vehicle owners. Besides they will park their own vehicles just behind the market on the Church Road.

The AMC also agreed to invite tenders for creating a parking slot on the pavement beginning from Muir Mill to DC Law for the shoppers.

The shopkeepers of the markets were agitated over the allotment of parking slot in the Naveen Market area to a contractor and fixing of Rs 10 as parking charges on every vehicle. The shopkeepers in protest against the KMC’s parking arrangement had given a call on Saturday for indefinite strike till it was cancelled.

Naveen Market is one of the most prestigious markets of the city and people from all walks of life visit it. With the increasing culture of shopping malls picking up in the city, traders of the Naveen Market are worried that whatever customers they have would be diverted to these malls.

The culture of shopping under one roof and the freebies offered by the malls has already diverted a large section of the customers of Naveen Market to a newly-opened shopping mall which is close to Naveen Market.
