PATENTING OF products has become necessary for every manufacturer, before he ventures into the global market. However, city industrialists are still ignorant about this fact and they had been trying to capture the world market without getting new ideas or products patented, said Indian Industries Association (IIA) State president Tarun Khetrapal. Khetrapal told the Hindustan Times that the biggest hurdle in the way of patenting ideas and products was the absence of research and development cell.
In the absence of this cell, it was not possible to carry out research according to the standards fixed by the world community for granting patent to any idea or product.
He said the IIA has taken up the matter with the Central Government and has urged it that suitable research facilities be provided to small scale industrialists so that they could assess the real worth of their products in the global market.
He said there was every possibility that the research lab would be set up at Lucknow soon, to facilitate small-scale industrialists.
He said though industry-related government departments held several seminars and symposia to create awareness about patents and its processes, SSIs could not benefit much. During the past two years, none of the small-scale industrialists ventured to get his product patented.
He said it was the duty of the small-scale industrialists to get acquainted with the process of patenting and try to move patent applications before others could take the advantage of their hard work in developing the innovative idea.
