Former Beatle Paul McCartney has penned a song for children called Tropic Island Hum. This is a sequel to his 1984 children's single We All Stand Together.

The title also serves as the name of a children's animated film created by McCartney that was recently released in North America as part of the DVD Paul McCartney: The Music and Animation Collection, billboard.com reports.

Tropic Island Hum will be released soon as a commercial single, backed with the long out-of-print We All Stand Together.

"I don't often write songs deliberately for children but we made this new film for kids and the film needed a song," McCartney said on his official website.

"As a songwriter I'm always interested in trying to write music in different styles, so I took the challenge of trying to write another one for kids."

A spokesperson said McCartney is in the studio working on his next album, the follow-up to 2001's Driving Rain.
