Peter Weir

Master And Commander: The Far Side Of The World

Peter Weir, part of the Australian New Wave, is known for the way he makes his characters interact with technology. For instance, in the Jim Carrey starrer "Truman Show", Carrey's life on up on view for the township without the character being aware of it.

"Master and Commander: The Far Side of The World" takes a look into the times of Napoleon. Two ships, one English called H.M.S. Surprise and captained by Captain Jack Aubrey and the other French ship Acheron try to outwit each other out along the coast of Brazil. While the captions are busy trying outdo each other, the English ship's doctor Stephen Maturin, takes an injured young midshipman under his wing and shares his studies as a naturalist with the boy.
