Talking to newsmen here on Sunday, he said, “The Congress, the BJP, the SP and the BSP are big parties and now people want some change. Therefore, the need of the hour is formation of a Third Front and efforts are on to seek support of Railway Minister Lalu Yadav and Ajit Singh of the Rashtriya Lok Dal.” Dr Masood said, “If the SP and the BSP want to join the Third Front, then the doors are open for them also.”
Commenting on the prospective vote bank of the proposed Third Front, Dr Masood said, “Farmers, weavers and labourers will constitute their votebank.” On a question why Muslims do not vote for a political party whose leader was a Muslim, Dr Masood said, “Muslims do not have faith on themselves and are not united. Therefore, they vote for other parties.”
Commenting on support of Muslims for the Samajwadi Party, he said during the tenure of the SP government, Muslims felt that they were secure. “But now even the SP has started fooling them and the entire community has just turned out to be only a vote-bank for the SP,” added Dr Masood.
On the statements made by Haj and Minorities Welfare Minister Yaqoob Qureshi and president of the All India Muslim Law Board (Jadid) Taquir Raza on the Danish cartoonist and the US president respectively, Dr Masood said only a maulana or a mufti could issue such statements. “The minister in no capacity can issue such statements but Maulana Taquir Raza can issue such statements,” added Dr Masood.
