Playing with texture & length
Varun Bahl's collection was a combination of fabrics, colours and length and and one can distinguish his creations from miles.
His signature style is a combination of fabric, colours and length. There is no limitation and constraints and you can distinguish his creations from miles. He is still a new kid on the block but his show on the final day of the fashion week had fashion stalwarts like Tarun Tahiliani and Ritu Kumar watching in rapt attention.
And there was no stopping the applause each time a model walked the ramp. So you wonder how wearable the clothes are. They were individualistic and had a personality of their own but it would be hard to imagine whether someone would actually wear it to a party unless you had the right attitude to carry them.
There were the usual layered skirts, asymmetrical flawless tops and coats and one wondered how much of an effort Varun Bahl would have put into the making of those chiffon tops as part of men’s wear which had wool designs. It was the same with the women’s creations as well. They stood out no doubt and they were beautiful but it will need someone equally individualistic to carry out the clothes.
“For me Varun’s clothes are classic, they can be kept for years and the style will never go out, it can be handed down from generations,” says Prahlad Kakkar, who came especially to see the show. “It is international standard, classic and has a very well finished look,’ he adds.
Varun’s collection is available at 45 stores across Italy, eight in Spain and 10 in West Asia and the Far East. He retails from Ensemble in Delhi and Mumbai and Carma in Delhi. Most of his clothes are in earthy shades of beige and brown.
Varun showcased along with Deepika Govind whose collection, Devoutly Irreverent, was a riot of colours like red, orange and blue. Her multi-layered garments were actually single piece dresses, her tops were silk blended with lycra. Both were as different as chalk to cheese, one playing with colours, the other played with texture.
