Security has been tightened in Hyderabad for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's one-day visit to inaugurate the Indian Science Congress.

Singh arrived in Hyderabad on Monday night amid tight security and continuing arrests of terror suspects.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the visit in the wake of last week's terror attack on the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore.

Security forces, including those from central forces, have been deployed to provide security to top scientists attending the five-day science meet.

The Prime Minister is then scheduled to fly to Shamsabad, also in the suburbs, to lay the foundation stone for a modern ring road circling the city and address a public meeting.

He then leaves for Port Blair at 1.20 pm to visit tsunami-affected areas.

Police are also on alert in the wake of continuing arrests of terror suspects in connection with the suspected suicide bombing at the police task force headquarters.
