PM of Tibetan govt in exile announces new cabinet

Aimed at giving new dimensions to the staggering Tibetan freedom struggle, newly elected Kalon Tripa- Prime Minister, Dr. Lobsang Sangay on Friday nominated his new team of 14th Kashag (Cabinet)- Highest decision-making body of Tibetan government in Exile.
Sangay introduced six nominees of Kashag in the parliament in inaugural session of the 15th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, which approved all six nominees as Kalons unanimously. One seat of the cabinet has been kept vacant. Cabinet of Tibetan government-in-exile comprises eight members including the Kalon Tripa.
Shortly after announcing his new cabinet Sangay said he has introduce six new members as the cabinet for Kashag and termed unanimous approval of the members by the parliament as a welcome gesture.
"I am delighted that the parliament approved all the candidates unanimously," Sangay said.
"From our side we will extend similar cooperation to the parliament and I am looking forward for working together," Sangay said.
Later Supreme Justice Commissioner of Tibet, Nawang Phelgyal administered oath to five out of six Kalons.
Dongchung Ngodup, Tsering Dhundup, Pema Chhinjor, Dolma Gyari, Dicki Chhoyang and took oath on Friday while Tsering Dhundup who was out of station would take oath on Saturday.
Women have also been given new Kashag, which is a blend of old and young. Two women who have been included in the cabinet are former Deputy Speaker, Dolma Gyari Member of Tibetan Parliament in Exile from North America, Dicki Chhovang. Pema Chhinjor (66) is the oldest member while Tsering Wangchuk (37) is the youngest face in the Cabinet.
Former Kalon for Department of Security, Dongchung Ngodup (55) had Joined Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) in 1977 and served as Secretary for Department of Security from 1993 to 2007. Ngodup has remained on post of Kalon for security in the 13th Kashag.
Kalon for finance in the previous Kashag Tsering Dhundup who is serving in the CTA since 1984 has also worked as Secretary for the Department of Education and Home from 2000 to 2007.
Pema Chhinjor, former Kalon for security in the 11th Kashag, after his arrival in India in 1959 has a 20 years experience of teaching Tibetan language and history in Department of Asian Studies, Punjab University, Chandigarh. He founded Regional Tibetan Youth Congress in Chandigarh and served as President for four consecutive terms.
In 1974 he was elected as member of the Central Executive Committee of Tibetan Youth Congress and was elected as member of Assembly of Tibetan People's Deputies for two terms from 1992.
Former Deputy Speaker of Tibetan Parliament, Dolma Gyari was an active member of women section of the Tibetan Youth Congress. She had earlier held the post of culture officer and joint secretary of Central Executive Committee of Tibetan Youth Congress in 1986 and 1989. She has been elected as member of the Tibetan Parliament- in- exile from 1991 to 2006 and had remained on the post of Deputy Speaker of the house three times.
Member of Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile from North America is has served as resettlement coordinator in Connecticut for the Tibetan-US resettlement project in 1990 and has also worked on community development project in Tibet from 1999-2001. Presently she is a Community Liaison Officer for the University of Montreal Hospital Center construction project.
Youngest member of the cabinet
Tsering Wangchuk, a doctor in medicine from Poland and Warsaw Medical University, internee returned to India in 2003 and joined as Resident Medical Officer at Menlha Hospital, Phuntsokling till 2008. After that he worked as Medical Officer cum In-charge of TRSHC Clinic and Hospital of Tibetan Refugee Self Help Center in Darjeeling.
Since 2009 he has been working as Senior Medical Officer at Tsojhe Khangsar Charity Hospital, Bylakuppe.
